Dental Insurance Plans for Individuals and Families

A good dental plan makes it easier to keep up with cleanings and handle a filling or crown without one big bill. I'll help you compare stand-alone and bundled dental plans side by side, including what's covered, how long you wait, and how much the plan pays each year, so you pick coverage that fits your mouth and your budget.

What I compare for you

Coverage levels

Dental plans usually split care into three groups: preventive (cleanings, exams, routine X-rays), basic (fillings, simple extractions), and major (crowns, root canals, bridges, dentures). I'll show you what each plan pays for each group, in copays or a percentage, so you know what to expect.

Waiting periods

Many plans make you wait before they'll cover basic or major work. If you already know you need treatment, I'll look for plans with shorter waits where they're available, and I'll explain any exclusions before you enroll.

Annual maximums

Most dental plans cap what they'll pay each year. I'll help you weigh the premium against that yearly cap so you aren't paying for coverage you won't use, or picking a cap that's too low for the work you need.

Dentist networks

If you have a dentist you like, I'll check whether they're in-network and explain what it costs to go out of network on each plan.

Who dental plans are for

  • People and families who don't have dental coverage through work
  • People with ACA health plans who want adult dental coverage (most Marketplace health plans don't include adult dental)
  • Parents looking for child dental coverage or plans with orthodontic benefits
  • Early retirees and self-employed people who want regular cleanings covered
  • Anyone who knows they'll need fillings, crowns, or other work and wants to plan for the cost

How I help, step by step

  1. Tell me what you need. Routine cleanings only, upcoming work, braces for a child, or keeping a dentist you already see.
  2. I compare your options. Premiums, coverage levels, waiting periods, annual maximums, and networks, side by side.
  3. I check your dentist. I confirm whether your dentist is in-network on the plans you're considering.
  4. You choose, and I enroll you. I handle the paperwork and confirm your start date.
  5. I'm here after you enroll. If a claim or bill doesn't look right, call me.

Good to know

  • Cleanings and exams are often covered at or near 100% when you see an in-network dentist. Check each plan's details.
  • Some plans offer orthodontic benefits or child-only options.
  • Bundling dental with vision can sometimes lower your total premium.
  • Plans have different rules for pre-existing dental issues, like a missing tooth. I'll point these out before you enroll.

Dental FAQs

Do ACA health plans include dental?

Dental care for children is an essential health benefit, so it's usually included in a health plan or available as a separate plan. Adult dental usually isn't included in Marketplace health plans, which is why many adults add a stand-alone dental plan.

Can I get a dental plan if I need work done right away?

Yes, but many plans have waiting periods before they cover basic or major care. Tell me what you need, and I'll show you which plans have shorter waits and what your costs would be in the meantime.

What is an annual maximum?

It's the most a dental plan will pay toward your care in one plan year. After you reach it, you pay the rest. I'll help you choose a maximum that makes sense for the work you expect.

Can I keep my current dentist?

Often, yes. I'll check whether your dentist is in-network on each plan. If they aren't, I'll explain your out-of-network costs.

Are braces covered?

Some plans include orthodontic benefits, usually for children, and they come with their own limits and waiting periods. If braces are on your list, tell me and I'll focus on plans that cover them.
